A pop-up family fun day was held recently in aid of the Wave Project, raising over £650.
The event was organised by John Bray Cornish Holidays and took place at the band stand in Padstow.
The day included a host of activities for families to take part in for a small donation. These included a mini beach clean, shell decorating, and the ‘Tiki Toss Challenge’.
In addition to the fun challenges, the John Bray Cornish Holidays team also ran a grand raffle, which included prizes donated by businesses, looking to support The Wave Project. There was a fabulous spread of prizes to be won, including a voucher from Prawn on the Lawn restaurant, a hamper from Rick Stein’s deli, clothing items from Jam Industries, delicious goods from Porthilly Spirit distillery and a gift from Ann’s Cottage.
The Wave Project, with a hub in Polzeath, is on a mission to improve the mental health and well-being of young people through the power of surf therapy. With one in six children in the UK struggling with their social, emotional or mental health, the charity aims to help children discover a calmer state of mind, develop friendships and achieve a more positive self-identity through surfing.
Emily Mercer, regional marketing manager said: “At John Bray Cornish Holidays, our team truly love our stunning coastline, and are passionate about the health benefits of ‘vitamin sea’. Our aim from the pop-up family fun day was to help as many children to enjoy a surf club session with The Wave Project as possible.
“It costs £200 to fund a surf club session for 10 children and we are delighted to have raised over £650 helping to fund over 30 sessions and provide at least 30 children with the opportunity to experience the joy of surfing.
“A special thanks goes to the local community and the many businesses that donated prizes to support this good cause, and also to the visitors and locals alike who kindly made donations and took part in our fun challenges on the day. A great time was had by all.”
