Year 11 students from Pool Academy have hit a ‘sweet spot’ with a rewarding trip to Hayle Driving Range.
The trip was the perfect follow-up to their hard work in the Champion Hour sessions - a unique after-school initiative designed to help students tackle homework and revision.
The 300-yard-long driving range was the ideal setting for the students to swing into action, with quality balls, mats, and floodlit targets galore. Whether they were aiming for the perfect shot or simply enjoying the fun, the students had plenty of opportunities to tee off in style.
To earn their spot at the driving range, students had to attend at least ten Champion Hour sessions in a half-term. Champion Hour, held from 4-5pm. each school day, provides students with extra time to focus on their studies before heading home for the evening.
All but one of the students had never tried golf before and this is what some of them had to say about it:
- “I very much enjoyed the trip, golfing is something that I've seen around but never attempted, now I think it's going on my hobby list.”
- “It was a great experience, and it was really fun to be a part of a lovely reward with my friends.”
- "It was a new experience that challenged me in all aspects while having fun at the same time.”
Principal Nick Ward said: “I’m delighted that so many of our students are committing to Champion Hour sessions. It’s fantastic to reward their dedication, especially with the GCSE exams on the horizon.
“These trips not only motivate our learners but also give them the chance to explore activities they might never have considered before, helping them develop a broader set of skills and interests.”
