Pool Academy, part of Athena Learning Trust, are holding Tremendous Thursday events this month for Year 6 children who are starting secondary school next September.
The events are running every Thursday this October from 4pm to 6pm. The first session on October 3 gave the primary pupils taster lessons in PE and humanities.
The children got to take part in a treasure hunt around the school with clues based on questions from history and geography, before turning their hand to a game of badminton and shooting some basketball hoops.
On October 10 they explored Spanish and English, then on October 17 they will explore it’s Science and Design Technology and finally maths and creative subjects on 24th.
The evenings have been designed to provide an unforgettable experience of exploration and fun. Not only do they allow the young people to dive into some lessons, they also provide them with the chance to meet children from other primary schools and start forming lasting friendships.
Pool Academy is also providing a free sit-down meal with school staff for the attendees, with delicious curry, mac and cheese and pizza on offer. The meals give the children the chance to experience the school cafeteria and chat to teachers and support staff.
Limited places are available for Tremendous Thursdays and booking is essential. Places can be booked here.
Mr Nick Ward, Principal at Pool Academy said: “It was brilliant to welcome future students on site for our first Tremendous Thursday event.
“Taster lessons, along with a meal at the school, are a great way not only to showcase everything Pool Academy has to offer, but they also help primary pupils with the transition to secondary school.
“Children feel more comfortable and confident when they start if they have some idea what the lessons are like and have spent some time at the school.”
“I would recommend that anyone who wants to come along books a place now, we are so excited to show everyone what makes Pool Academy such a great place to learn and grow!”
