EMERGENCY services descended on a Newquay beach after concerns were raised for the welfare of a woman in the early hours of Wednesday (February 19).

Police searched Towan Beach at about 1.30am and appealed to Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team for help.

The Coastguard team were stood down en route as the woman had been located.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police were called at around 1.30am on Wednesday, February 19 following concern for the welfare of a woman in Newquay.

“HM Coastguard was asked to help with searches in the Towan Beach area but was stood down prior to arrival when the woman was found safe and well soon after 1.45am.”
