POLICE have made two arrests in connection with a night of serious crime in the St Austell area.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and causing grievous bodily harm with intent, while a 48-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of four counts of burglary and one count of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Both men have been released on police bail until September while investigations continue into the events of Thursday night.

Police said that officers were first called to the Texaco petrol station on Southbourne Road in St Austell where a burglary had been reported at around 11.25pm. A short time later, the police received a report of a burglary at a property in the Roche area.

Soon afterwards, a vehicle wanted in connection with the alleged burglary in the Roche area was spotted by a police officer at the Applegreen Service Station on Penwinnick Road in St Austell.

The officer had approached the suspect car, a red VW Golf, and was then allegedly hit as it left the scene. Police said the officer received serious injuries to his arm.

Following a public appeal, a vehicle that officers were seeking was located in the St Austell area on Saturday.
