A Cornwall based performance poet has launched a collection of his previously published work.

Simon Allison began his career on the Manchester comedy circuit sharing the stage with the likes of John Thomson, Jane Horrocks and Caroline Aherne.

Simon’s comic verse was often the perfect ‘filler’ in between stand-up acts.

A regular Sunday afternoon slot on an ITV variety show followed with appearances at the Edinburgh fringe Festival.

With a diverse range of themes, Simon performed poems in venues ranging from schools to hospitals and even a well-known Manchester prison!

Moving to Cornwall ten years ago Simon has branched out into writing scripts and plays. He is also the founder and artistic director of Drama Express, a youth arts charity for young people with additional needs.

He said: “I grew up in the Yorkshire village of Marsden, also home town of current poet laureate Simon Armitage. At one stage were known as the two Simons!

“My poems are best described as ‘observational’, a reflection on the amusing side of daily life. Each poem has previously been published or broadcast including slots on Radio 4 and Poetry Society podcasts”.

With illustrations from local artist Anna Browning all proceeds from the book will be donated to Drama Express.
