PLANS to resurrect Newquay Carnival parade are proceeding.
Newquay Lions Club met with local organisations around the town to discuss the future of the carnival and it was decided to bring back the community event.
A community carnival committee is being created to organise the event. No date has been finalised yet for staging the carnival.
The carnival parade will aim to celebrate Newquay with the theme of surf, sea and going green.
A JustGiving fundraising appeal has been launched to raise £3,500 towards staging the carnival, which has so far raised £110.
Residents and business are being encouraged to support the event.
A spokesperson said: “We are delighted to say we will be bringing back this community event, but we need people’s help.
“We are creating a Community Committee to come up with ideas and look at ways to raise vital funds! We simply cannot do this without people’s help.
“Anyone who is a member of the public, have a business or have an organisation in the town and think they can help in any way please do get in touch.”
Alistair McKenna added: “We are raising £3,500 to bring back Newquay Carnival.
“Following a community meeting, we have now secured the support of members of the community to create a community carnival committee but before we can start putting together Newquay Carnival for 2025, we simply cannot do this without people’s help.
“We are reaching out to the community of Newquay. We know times are hard, but if anyone can spare anything, if businesses are willing to support we'd love to bring back a community carnival parade.
“We hope our theme for 2025 to be celebrating Newquay with a theme of surf, sea and going green.”
