PLANS are being consulted on to remove a public phone box at Pentire due to a lack of usage.

BT propose to take out the payphone at the junction with Camallas Way and Pentire Avenue.

The company states have been only 10 calls from facility in the past 12 months and that mobile phone coverage is ok in the area.

It also says there have been no helpline calls in the past 12 months and that there is no pattern of serious accidents in close proximity.

The location has additionally not been identified as a high frequency suicide location, and no reasonable evidence of need has been identified to retain the phone box.

The phone box is among 54 public payphones in Cornwall that BT are consulting on until the end of April after being identified as being no longer needed.
