Cornwall Council has issued the advice due to further strong winds forecast and the risk of flying debris.

Residents feared for their lives in Quintrell Downs as the tornado damaged more than 100 properties, which included a roof being ripped off a residential property and tiles being torn from roofs at about 9.45am.

A pig pen was also hurled into the road by the violent wind and trees were felled.

Trethiggey Crescent, Vyvyan Drive, Figgy Road and Willow Close were among the streets that were badly hit.

A council spokesperson said: “Several properties in the Quintrell Downs area have sustained some damage from the high winds.

“Further strong winds are forecast over the weekend and into next week.

“Due to the risk of flying debris and further damage over the coming days, please avoid the area. If you need to access a property, please take extreme caution.

“Signs will be put in place in the area.”
