A 37-year-old Penzance man, who performed a sex act on himself on two occasions on a train in Cornwall, has been sentenced at Milton Keynes Magistrates Court, following a British Transport Police investigation.

On March 28, Steven Nel of Jelbery Way, pleaded guilty to indecent exposure and was sentenced to 14 weeks imprisonment, suspended for 24-months.  He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £128, ordered not to consume any alcohol for 90 days and was subject to a rehabilitation activity requirement.

The court heard how on Sunday, January 1, several young girls witnessed Nel exposing himself and perform a sex act on himself.  This happened on two occasions on trains in and around the Par and Penryn areas of Cornwall.

Investigating officer DS Gary Archer said: “Disgusting behaviour like this simply will not be tolerated on the rail network.

“Everyone has the right to travel across the rail network without having to endure unwanted sexual attention and witness such deplorable acts.

“We will continue to work night and day to eradicate such behaviour on our trains and I would like to thank the witnesses for helping us get this conviction.”
