PENSIONER Glyn Shrubb was interrupted during his breakfast and his meal went cold – but he wasn’t too fussed because he had just been told he had won a dream car and £30,000 in cash.

Glyn, 76, was having his weekly breakfast catch-up with his friends in his local cafe when he received the news.

Presenter Christian Williams from online car competitions company BOTB caught up with Glyn at the cafe to tell him he was the winner of a Cupra Ateca VZ3 worth £50,000 - and there was £30,000 in the boot.

Former lorry driver and mechanic Glyn, from St Austell, said: “It feels fantastic to have won, although I’m still in a bit of shock.

“I play every week and thought my day would come as I’ve come close on a couple of occasions.

“I had seen Christian’s face before and when he walked through the door I knew who he was and when I saw my wife standing behind him, I knew I had won.”

The car, which has a turbo engine, can reach a top speed of 155mph.

Glyn said: “It looks a bit of a beast and has got a bit of oomph in it. It also looks spacious, and I’ll be able to get in it easily. I’ve got a bad back and, with the car I’ve currently got, I’ve got to get in head first to then be able to get my legs in. It will be nice not having to duck!”

Christian said: “When we heard where Glyn was going to be, we just couldn’t wait to surprise him.

“This sounds like the perfect car for him and it will certainly make his life a lot easier.

“He spent so long in his new car, his breakfast got cold, but hopefully he forgives us!

“Glyn is now looking forward to celebrating his big win with a trip to Florida together with his wife,.”

Glyn said: “We've been once back in 2011 for my wife’s 50th and have been banging on about going again. We also want to tidy up our home a bit and would like a new bathroom.”
