THE days when poor people ended up in a workhouse will be the subject of a talk in St Austell.

The St Austell Old Cornwall Society will be hearing the talk about the St Austell Workhouse during its meeting on Monday, January 13.

The meeting will begin at 7.30pm in the White River Community Church on Trinity Street and the speaker will be Phil Gibbs.

A spokesperson said: “Everyone who has any interest in the history, heritage and customs of Cornwall is welcome to attend.

“Every month we have a guest speaker. December sees our Christmas celebration and in June, July and August we have outings to interesting places in Cornwall.”

An annual subscription costs £10, while guests at the talk will pay £2.
