NEWQUAY’S most terrifying tradition is set to make a riotous return.
The popular Zombie Crawl organised by Newquay BID will see petrifying pirates, wicked witches, zoned-out zombies and a ghoulish ghost train take over the town on Saturday, October 26 between 11.30am and 2.30pm.
The otherworldly spooktacular event will begin with multiple free rolling workshops for families to enjoy throughout the town, including freaky family face painting, zombie outfit making sessions, pop-up scary moooves dance classes, circus skills, pumpkin carving and ongoing entertainment in preparation for the creepy crawl.
The spooky sessions are free-of-charge for everyone to attend and will be situated in businesses and locations throughout the town, from Cliff Road right through to Fore Street.
Thousands of affected Zombies, including lifeguards, pirates and pop stars, will gather at Sainsbury’s in Alma Place, ahead of the Zombie Crawl, which will get underway at 3pm.
The horror show, which will be a scene not dissimilar to that of a dystopian movie, will work its way through the wicked wasteland of Newquay’s main street, ending at Newquay Train Station. This year’s trail will end at various Newquay establishments where after parties of ‘Spooky Discos’ will kick off.
Visitors to Newquay should look out for spooky monster offers going on right through the town during half-term week. Additionally, Visit Newquay will be running its free Halloween Zombie Trail.
People should head for the Newquay Tourist Information Centre to collect a clue sheet to participate. Then they can follow the clues to the shops, picking up letters as they go.
Newquay businesses will also be getting involved by ‘spookifying’ their shop fronts, their teams, their wares and their products. ‘The scarier the better’ is the only criteria in decorating windows, stores, and people, and the best-dressed storefronts will win themselves a prize.
Newquay BID manager, Mark Warren, said, “The dead has had a year of rest and now it’s almost time for their revival to get Newquay sufficiently spooky again.
“This year’s Zombie Crawl is set to be bigger and more frightful than ever as the lines blur between the worlds of the living and the supernatural.
“Halloween is more popular than ever before and here in Newquay, we’ve fully embraced the opportunity to seize on this and optimise the creative creepiness of it all in a super fun way. This is also the biggest free family event in Cornwall and we’re incredibly proud of this.
“The Zombie Crawl is set to be bigger and better this year as we have additional creative made possible by funding from Experience Newquay, a Cornwall Council project and increased workshops that are stretched even further through the town.
“Throughout the spooky Newquay week, there will also be many extra options for families across several of our local businesses. We can’t wait to welcome visitors and locals alike for this super-sized spooky extravaganza, which brings the whole business and local community together at this point of the year!”
