THE iconic land train that ferries people around Newquay has gone up for sale — priced at £95,000.
Owner Mark Haddrell has decided to sell the road train as he plans to retire.
The famous road train takes passengers on a five-mile open-air journey around Newquay and includes a commentary by the conductor about its popular landmarks.
Mr Haddrell hopes the land train will remain operational in Newquay following the sale.
He said: “It’s time for us to move on. We’ve had a fantastic seven years running the train and I’m at that retirement age.
“We are planning on selling the train carriages and full business together, with the hope for it to remain in Newquay. It has been great to have provided this fantastic service to our lovely locals and holiday makers.
“Special thanks to everyone that has supported the land train and to everyone that waves and choo choo the train.”
Many people will be sad if the land train does depart Newquay as it has become a popular attraction.
But others will be glad to see the back of it as motorists can become stuck behind the slow-moving vehicle.
Resident Debbie Quinn said: “I hope the land train stays. It’s a joy to see and hear every day. It’s a part of Newquay and it does a lot of good for people.”
Bob Brown added: “I hope someone buys it to continue the fun vibe going in town. It's a proper holiday sight.”
Another said: “Whoever buys it please make it faster. It is a train of shame for those on it and the train of pain for those following.
“But in all seriousness the owners of the land train have been great to a lady I know in her seventies. They always picks her up with her shopping and take her home on the train free of charge.
“It is great they're volunteering their service to those in the community who need it.”
