THE Newquay Royal British Legion Branch has been saved after its plea for support was answered.

Daz Keeler, the chairman of the Newquay RBL branch, launched a recruitment campaign to enlist reinforcements due to a lack of committee members.

A number of people who attended the Newquay RBL Branch Annual General Meeting held at the Oceanside Hotel on Wednesday, November 13 pledged to fill the roles needed.

The future of events the branch organises have now been secured including the annual Remembrance Day parade, services and wreath laying.

Daz Keelor the chair of the Newquay Branch of the Royal British Legion, said: “I’d like to thank the Newquay Voice for running the front page story about the possible demise of the branch. It had a great effect.

“We had an attendance of 18 people at our AGM, the highest number of attendees for many years and the majority of those attending volunteered to step up and assume positions of branch officer and branch committee so,

“We as a RBL branch are still alive and kicking and will continue our duty to the veterans and the rest of the community in Newquay on behalf of the Royal British Legion.”

The Newquay RBL Club in Trevena Terrace closed down in September 2023 after owing thousands of pounds. The club committee said that “bad publicity” and “bad mouthing” of the RBL club had affected income over recent months and led to spiralling debt.
