A CONCERT is being organised to raise funds in aid of St Michael’s Church in Newquay.

The event, which is due to take place on Friday, May 2, from 7pm, will feature Newquay Male Voice Choir and the St Dennis Ukelele Club with ‘solo’ spots being offered by Oll an Gwella and Rachel Margetts.

Newquay Male Voice Choir is now under the direction of Tony Harries and he has already set about developing a new repertoire and a new style that is already proving to be highly entertaining. The audience will hear a new and different Newquay Male Voice Choir sound delivered through a changing set of pieces.

The St Dennis Ukelele Club takes ukelele playing to a different level with a repertoire of pieces that will get people feet tapping and hands clapping. They give a high energy performance that aims to send their audience away with a smile on their faces and music in their hearts.

Oll an Gwella need no introduction to a local audience. They claim to offer ‘Songs, Shanties and Smiles’ and wherever they go that is exactly what they do. Audiences can be prepared to be properly entertained as they bring their own acapella style to songs that span a wide range of repertoire but focus on pieces that reflect the Cornish culture and heritage.

Rachel Margetts, Newquay Male Voice Choir’s new accompanist, is only 15 years of age and she is an accomplished pianist. Her contribution to the evening will provide a contrast to the style and presentation of the other performers, bringing an air of quiet sophistication to the event.

Admission will be £5 on the door and there will be a raffle and a retiring collection with all proceeds going to Church funds.
