The grand switch-on ceremony for Newlyn’s Christmas lights took place on Friday night.

The lights illuminating in the town were accompanied by a spectacular firework display, courtesy of Sonic Fireworks who in the past have been British firework champions.

One lucky child got the honour of switching the lights on after winning the free raffle.

Newlyn School Choir and Penzance Silver Band entertained the crowd singing and playing a whole host of Christmas carols throughout the evening.

Father Christmas was in attendance after he arrived onboard the RNLI Penlee Lifeboat ‘Ivan Ellen’, accompanied by Pendeen Pilot Gig Club CIO in their decorated gigs.

This year’s charity auction at The Star Inn saw a sum of £3,000 raised from generous businesses and individuals for the Newlyn Harbour Lights.

The organisers of the lights also received £6,000 grant funding from Penzance Council towards their firework display.
