A new Cornish youth theatre company is staging its first performance.
Boom Theatre is performing Six Teen edition at St Johns Hall in Penzance on October 7-October 12.
The story, which is the latest popular musical to hit the West End and Broadway, is set to music of the wives of King Henry VIII – famed for their divorced, beheaded, died outcomes.
Boom Theatre aims to provide young people with the opportunity to appear in top class productions who often have in the past had to travel out of county to get their break whilst drawing on specialist pro-input from West End professionals.
A series of well-attended workshops and casting sessions were held at venues throughout Cornwall for the first production and the cast was chosen from more than 50 dancers, actors, singers who auditioned for parts.
Enyaj Taylor, Mesi Walsh, Keera Rowe, Nancy Sadler, Ella Parker and Elsie Graham have been cast as Stuarts.
The Tudor cast is made up of Daisy Ali, Elsie Hudson, Sapphire Blown, Emily Smith, Lauren Bastable and Annabelle Cabrera.
The young actors have been working with industry professionals, including one of the original musical directors of Six in the West End, Ellie Verkerk and Lizzy Connolly, a West End actor currently performing in Pygmalion at the Old Vic in London.
Kate Walsh, the co-director of Boom Theatre, said: “Our youngsters aged eight to 18 are putting on this uplifting, brilliant, bonkers show this October in Penzance.
“They are all the incredibly talented, for some this will be their first ever live musical theatre performance.
“Ellie Verkerk from Six is coming back as the musical director and will also be playing keys for the whole production.
“Ellie and Lizzy have been ably assisted by our local network of local MDs, choreographers, and other fabulous creatives to help produce a terrific non replica production of the musical with all the original music.
“The choreographer Ben D’aith is local to Cornwall and teaches at lots of local dance schools.
“Everyone has worked so hard, and we really think the audience will be thrilled, captivated, and will be thoroughly entertained.
“It promises to be a spectacular amateur theatre production in Cornwall and one not to be missed.”
The amateur production is presented by special arrangement with Concord Theatricals.
