A NEW drop-in cafe in the centre of St Austell is offering young people a weekly place to meet up after school.

The cafe is running at Holy Trinity Church on Wednesday afternoons in term time.

Lesley Lawther, minister for communities and pastoral care in the St Austell Anglican parish, said: “We are hoping to offer a safe and relaxing space for young people as somewhere to come after school.

“We see lots of secondary school children come into town after school and thought it would be good to offer a space where they can hang out safely with their friends. We will run a tuck shop and offer milkshakes. The kettle will also be on!

“We have table tennis, snooker, badminton and a craft/homework table area. We also have a little gaming area.

“We are aware that there isn't a lot of youth provision and want to offer something to the young people of our town.

“The cafe will run on Wednesdays from 3.30pm to 5pm on the following dates: June 19 and 26, and July 3, 10 and 17. We will have a break during August and then start up again in September with the dates to be confirmed.”
