NEW solar panels have been installed on the roof of St Piran’s Hall in Goldsithney, near Marazion.

After holding his Casework Surgery in the Hall and looking at stalls and events which were part of the ‘Wellbeing Fair’, Andrew George was delighted to be asked to declare the ‘opening’ of the new solar energy roof.

The £20,000 project was largely funded by Perranuthoe Parish Council, with grant aid from the Platinum Jubilee Village Hall Improvement Grant Fund.

Andrew said: “This is a great initiative. Good for the community and good for the climate. Well done to St Piran’s Hall Committee and Trustees and a big thank you to the Parish Council and the Platinum Jubilee Fund.”

St Piran’s Hall was built in the 1970s and extended at the turn of the century, and hosts a wide range of social activities and community events.

Trustee, Andy Moore, said that the hall is “a valuable asset to the parish” – but with around 35 activities taking place there every week, running costs are high. The solar panels have a capacity of 18kw, and will not only reduce the hall’s energy bill, but also enable it to export electricity to the National Grid.
