A German-style Christmas market selling Cornish produce has been revealed as the flagship festive shopping experience on Truro’s Lemon Quay.
The BIG Christmas Market will see Cornwall’s finest artisan traders housed in bespoke wooden cabins which will allow the market to run daily, in all weathers, from Wednesday, November 29 until Christmas Eve, bringing a celebration of local produce, creativity, and community into the heart of the city throughout the festive season.
Organisers hope it will grow to rival similar Christmas markets in historic cities like Bath and York.
A wide range of stalls will showcase local food, drink, art, and crafts, while street food, music, festive happenings, and family entertainment will add an immersive feel to the month-long market.
Shoppers will be able to tuck into mulled wine and mince pies as local choirs serenade them with carols.
The event is hosted by Truro Farmers’ Market and coordinated with the help of Truro City Council, Visit Truro, Truro BID and headline sponsor Sekoya HR.
Market coordinator Stewart Girvan said: “The cabins will really upgrade the market experience for both traders and visitors.
“Not only will they look magical, festooned with lights and individually styled by each of the traders, it will also make for a better visiting experience – whatever the Cornish weather throws at us.”
Truro mayor Cllr Carol Swain said: “The new improved market will be a real destination – one to rival those of other beautiful cities around the UK.”
Truro BID manager Alun Jones said: “Truro remains the Christmas shopping destination for Cornwall, and we welcome the new-look market, which will bring additional customers in and help boost sales for shops and eateries across the city.”
Applications are now open to traders interested in taking part. Two sizes of cabin (made by local company Llawnroc Furniture) are available, and applicants can request to join the market for anything from five days to the full 26 days.
