An author who splits his time between Cornwall and Bordeaux in France has written a new comic novel.

The Wonderful World of Jane & Oliver Bloke, by Rorie Smith, features a family sheltering from covid in a mythical lighthouse off the Cornish coast somewhere between Rame Head and Falmouth.

Rorie, a former journalist, said: ‘Everyone dreams of living in a lighthouse at some point and it seemed an ideal place to shelter from COVID.

“There is the Robinson Crusoe survival detail but then something very odd happens which takes the story off in a whole new direction.”

This is a fourth novel for Rorie who spends some of his time living in a chalet at Freathy in Whitsand Bay.

The Wonderful World of Jane & Oliver Bloke is published by WriteSideLeft of Dorset and available in bookshops.

Publisher Siobhan Harrison said: “The book is selling well. Life in a lighthouse off the coast of Cornwall seems to have caught the imagination.”
