NANSLEDAN, the Duchy of Cornwall’s sustainable extension to Newquay, has welcomed its 750th homeowners as the award-winning development continues to grow.

Local couple Graham and Mandy Lamb have relocated from Porth Veor in Newquay to a new two-bedroomed home built by CG Fry on Stret Kolom.

Graham, 54, works in construction with Newquay firm Legacy Homes and Mandy, 57, is a care support worker with Salutem, working mainly with adults with autism.

The couple, who have lived in Newquay for more than 20 years, had been thinking of downsizing after their daughters left home but brought their plans forward after eldest daughter Rossina, 36, who lives in Australia, had her first child Teddy in January. The couple have another daughter, Georgina, 29, who lives in St Columb Major.

Graham said: "Ross now lives in Australia, and last year we had the fantastic news that she was having a baby - our first grandchild. We were elated and realised that we would need money for future travel. We had considered downsizing, but maybe in five or 10 years’ time; this brought things forward."

The couple have fallen in love with their new home and are impressed by how Nansledan has been designed with walkable neighbourhoods, local shops and lots of green space.

Graham said: "I work on building sites, have been in construction since I left school, so I know what it’s like. Nansledan is laid out very well – a lot of thought has gone into how it looks and operates. It’s pretty amazing. The Duchy has planned it so well. They really know what they are doing - it’s spot on.”

Mandy added: "Our little house is based on a fisherman's cottage, with vaulted ceilings and sash windows. It doesn’t look like a brand-new house. It’s very sweet.”

Another fan of Nansledan is the couple's 14-year-old Jack Russell cross, Stanley.

Mandy explained: “Stanley is very old and has gone deaf. About two weeks before we moved, we would bring him here for walks so he would get used to it. He absolutely loves it. One of our favourite walks is down the old bridleway, twice daily. It’s better for him, as our old route was very road-based, so this is less busy. It’s very dog-friendly here, and whenever he goes in shops, he gets treats.”

The couple are now looking forward to seeing their grandson Teddy who is visiting with mum Rossina in July and will stay in the spare room. Graham said: "It’s already kitted out with a highchair and travel cot. It’s very exciting.”

Nansledan will eventually have around 4,000 homes and has been designed by the Duchy of Cornwall as a sustainable urban extension to Newquay that can meet local housing needs and support local employment.
