CAMBORNE and Redruth MP Perran Moon visited Pool Academy recently.
Mr Moon came along to the school to meet with Senior Prefects for a thought provoking question and answer session. The Senior Prefects met with Mr Moon in the school’s conference room and had prepared a wide range of insightful questions to ask him on a number of local and national issues.
Mr Moon introduced himself to the group and shared a brief introduction about his role, the responsibilities of an MP, and some personal insights into the demands and rewards of political life.
The students then discussed numerous topics with Mr Moon such as funding for education, environmental policies and the challenges faced by young people entering the workforce today. They also asked him about initiatives to improve local infrastructure, plans to support mental health resources in schools, and ways young people can get more involved in politics.
Mr Moon responded to each question thoughtfully, providing helpful context on how the government makes decisions. He also emphasised the importance of youth voices in shaping policy. He encouraged the students to stay informed about current events, to be involved in their communities and to understand the power of their own voices in driving change.
At Pool Academy the Senior Prefects and the Student Leadership Team meet regularly to listen to students’ views and are empowered to lead initiatives to support the whole community.
Nick Ward, Principal at Pool Academy said: “I am very grateful to Mr Moon for taking the time to visit Pool Academy and meet with our Student Prefects. The session was an inspiring experience for everyone involved and I hope to arrange more opportunities like this that will connect our students with community leaders and enable them to explore the impact they can have on the world around them.”
