MEVAGISSEY Male Choir is celebrating after being chosen as the best male Cornish choir in a competition.
The men triumphed in the Cornish choir section at the Cornwall International Male Choral Festival held at Truro Cathedral.
A spokesperson for the choir said: “This was the first time the choir had entered into a competition with other choirs for a very long time, so it was a new experience for many of us.
“We have always believed that we have achieved a high standard as one of the best choirs in Cornwall – it’s nice to have it confirmed.
“Our musical director Jimmy Cannon has been with us for just one year, so is very pleased with the work that the choir has put in during rehearsals.
“This year is the choir’s 50th anniversary and we will be celebrating at the Hall for Cornwall on June 12 singing with the Cornwall Youth Choir.
“The choir has recently returned from a weekend in Torquay where we gave a successful concert with Torbay Police Choir.
“We will be singing at Carnglaze Caverns on Saturday, August 17, and this promises to be a spectacular event. And, we shall, of course, be singing on Mevagissey Quay every Monday in August at 7.30pm.”
