This weekend I was invited to join our community at Newquay Orchard for its annual Wassail event. This year marks 10 years since the first tree was planted at the Orchard and since then this community asset has gone from strength to strength. Newquay Orchard is an example of how we can live among and enjoy our natural environment without imposing ourselves upon it, we need more of this in today’s world and I want to thank the many staff and volunteers who make Newquay Orchard the wonderful space it is.
On Saturday I attended a protest against Cornwall Councils plans to privatise five of its car parks in Newquay, held by campaigners at Watergate Bay car park, it was also great to have our MP Noah Law at the event. The strength of feeling locally is completely understandable in my opinion and these proposals which will likely follow the direction of travel at the once well utilised Little Fistral car park which has become extremely problematic since the introduction of ANPR.
I as mayor have had many tourists contact me this summer to seek support after falling foul of these systems, it is not the thing we want our vital tourists to remember of their time in our wonderful town. As a town council we made representations against these plans and wrote to the officer at Cornwall Council, lets hope they listen.
Phil Trebilcock: Harbour View
A quiet week ahead, light winds, very mild. Couple of boats back from Wadebridge boatyard after winter maintenance, another fishing boat is under offer.
Huge amount of “feed” in the bay, probably notice hundreds of gannets diving close inshore. also plenty of small mackerel being caught. No band this Saturday at Rowing Club.
