Last week saw a visit to Newquay by the King, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner.
They visited the Orchard to see the magnificent work the team are doing there as well as stopping by Nansledan.
It was extremely disappointing to hear about the budget discussions and recommendations from Cornwall Council Cabinet.
The decision to cut things like household waste recycling to five days from seven will inevitably make it more difficult to dispose of waste in the right way.
For me though the ‘proposal’ by the cabinet suggests a real moral void removing and reducing child protective services. I fear these cuts will cause further harm to children.
Similar cuts to services the elderly and those living with long term disabilities were also ‘recommended’.
It seems that 2025 is a very bad time to be a vulnerable person living in Cornwall unfortunately.
I would like to thank the members of the public who attended our environment and facilities meeting last week to talk about the increasing amount of dog owners who are not clearing up after their animal.
I was happy to lead calls for a temporary intervention by enforcement whilst we recruit to permanent roles.
Let’s ensure people who are irresponsible in our community in this way face the penalty.
Phil Trebilcock: Harbour View
After a long spell of easterly winds, all change to south west winds, strong at times, and heavy showers.
The whale is still off Bedruthan Steps playing around, and there have been a few dolphins in the Gazzle.
Commercial fishing is generally quiet. There are a few pollock and small mackerel in the bay.
There is no band this Saturday at Newquay Rowing Club. There is a a busy weekend of rugby.
Thought for the week: “Worrying won’t take away tomorrow’s troubles “
