Plans to re-open a prominent venue in St Ives have taken a step forward.
St Ives Town Council has recruited Léon Phillips as an interim general manager to help with the refurbishment of the St Ives Guildhall in Street An Pol.
He will play a vital role in the authority’s St Ives Town Deal funded development project working closely with the town council’s cultural services manager and wider project team, re-defining the operational systems, technical equipment and infrastructure, contributing to the construction project towards the successful re-opening of the venue in spring 2025.
Léon brings with him a wealth of experience with an extensive sound engineering and music background which includes production management of events and tours from clubs to stadiums.
He moved to St Ives in 2001 to take up position of product manager for Allen & Heath, he helped deliver a successful range of digital solutions for the installation, live events, and theatre markets, world-wide.
Prior to his relocation to Cornwall, Léon was managing director of the 800-capacity The Faversham in Leeds – an iconic 26-room Victorian mansion with a vibrant entertainment schedule, three bars and a restaurant.
More recently he brought his experience to a new role as music technician for Truro and Penwith Academy Trust serving three local secondary schools.
“I am looking forward to the challenge of delivering a refurbished concert-hall venue complex for the people of St Ives, which will not only enable the town to host a world-class programme of events but provide employment and training opportunities in conjunction with local businesses and Educational faculties,” said Léon.
