A 36-year-old man remains in police custody on suspicion of murder after the death of a woman in St Austell on Tuesday.

A warrant of further detention has been granted by Bodmin Magistrates’ Court today, allowing officers to detain the suspect in custody for a further 36 hours.

The man of no fixed abode is believed to have known to the victim.

Meanwhile, police have created a major incident public portal (MIPP) page as part of the investigation into the death.

The MIPP allows members of the public who may have information to directly send large files such as doorbell, CCTV and dashcam footage that could assist in a police investigation.

Senior investigating officer, DI Rob Smith said: “I continue to ask anyone who may have relevant dashcam footage, doorbell or CCTV footage that would have been active on the evening of Tuesday 28 March in the areas between Penwithick Road, Carluddon and Manor View, Par to contact police and report anything that may assist us.”

Officers and paramedics attended the scene at around 6.55pm on Tuesday and found a woman, aged in her 60s, unresponsive and with serious facial injuries.

Despite the efforts of those who attended, she was pronounced deceased a short time later.

Her next of kin have been informed.

A cordon remains in place at Penwithick Road and officers remain in the area carrying out enquiries.

Anyone with any information is asked to report this to Devon and Cornwall Police via the major incident public portal site, under Operation Milebush.
