DAVID Rickard has dedicated the past 18 years to fundraising for the RNLI in memory of his late mother, Mary Rickard.
Since 2006, David, who lives in Honiton, Devon, has remarkably raised more than £28,000 through his commitment to charitable giving.
Driven by a desire to honour his mother's life, who resided in St Austell, David initially embarked on his fundraising journey by delivering the free local newspaper, the Midweek Herald, every Wednesday. The proceeds from this dedicated paper route were then directed towards various Cornish charities.
Over the years, David generously supported numerous Cornish causes. He ultimately focused his efforts on the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and the Cornwall Air Ambulance, organisations he deeply admired. Due to a fall in 2022, David regretfully had to discontinue his paper deliveries. However, his unwavering commitment to charitable giving continued, with donations now coming from his personal savings.
“Lifeboat crews are incredibly brave,” David said. "The risks they take to save lives during rescue operations are truly inspiring.”
The RNLI, particularly the Penlee station, has been a significant beneficiary of David's remarkable fundraising. His donations have undoubtedly played a crucial role in supporting the RNLI's saving lives at sea.
David's dedication to charitable giving extends far beyond the financial contributions. His unwavering commitment and selflessness are a true testament to his character. The RNLI, along with the many other Cornish charities he has supported, express their deepest gratitude to David for his incredible generosity.
