A DEVELOPER is stepping up efforts to stop unauthorised entry at one of its schemes being built in Newquay after a man was reportedly discovered injured.
The man was found in one of the apartments under development at the Cliff Edge site at Narrowcliff on Wednesday, February 5, which is being constructed by Stephens + Stephens.
An inspection of the site was launched after blood was discovered in the basement area.
A spokesperson for Stephens + Stephens said: “On February 5, the Cliff Edge 2 site manager found the premises secure as usual, unlocked the gates and normal building operations were commenced.
“Shortly thereafter, blood was discovered in the basement area, prompting immediate notification to the site manager.
“All works were immediately ceased, and an inspection of the entire building was conducted.
“During the inspection, a male individual was found, asleep, in one of the apartments currently under development.
“Upon further investigation, a rucksack was also found in his vicinity containing hand tools and it appears that the individual may have been planning to remove the items from the site.
“First aid was immediately administered, and the site team called the emergency services via 999 and made the decision to transport the individual to the nearest Accident & Emergency (A&E) department in Newquay where a Stephens + Stephens representative stayed for some time.
“Throughout the process, the gentleman has continued to withhold his name, address, and any information regarding the cause of his injuries or information about how he gained access to the site.
“Stephens + Stephens are working with the local police force to consider and identify any potential ways of unauthorised entry and ensure these are closed off in future.
“The company remains in touch with the emergency services regarding the wellbeing of the individual and will not be pressing any charges.”
