LOCAL musicians Will Keating, Harry Glasson and surprise guest Daniel Woodfield, gave an audience of nearly 200 a special performance on Saturday to raise funds to put a new roof on Morris House at YMCA Cornwall in Penzance.

There was a raffle with prizes donated by a range of local businesses. The event was supported by Penzance and Newlyn Rugby Football Club, the Cornish Pirates and Roseworthy Farm.

The Raise the Roof campaign was launched in March by YMCA Cornwall as the roof on one of the buildings on their site in Alverton, which houses 20 young people, will not survive another winter. The cost of the new roof will be around £80,000 and fundraising efforts have so far raised £26,000.

YMCA Board Members met last week and committed to the work taking place and it is hoped it will be completed in September.

Helen Wilson-Prowse, from YMCA Cornwall, who organised the event, announced that the evening had raised £3,266 due to the tremendous support of the local community and the generosity of all those who made it happen.

Will and Harry said of the evening, “We were delighted to be able to help such a great cause. The work of YMCA Cornwall is vital in trying to ensure vulnerable young people are offered safe homes and supported by the team with any challenges they face and that gives them the best possible start in life.”

The fundraising appeal is still ongoing with many activities happening and donations coming in from various groups who recognise the importance of the work of the YMCA.

Donations can still be made by visiting the coffee shop or by going online to ymcacornwall.enthuse.com/cf/raise-the-roof
