A Newquay club has been mixing it up to raise funds for good causes.
Newquay Lions held its inaugural ‘cake-off’ competition at the Kilbernie Hotel.
Competitors battled it out in several categories.
The event was the idea of Lion Seanna and was supported by Newquay Lions as a way of bringing the community together and raising funds.
The judging was carried by Aaron Janes, owner and head chef at the Newquay Harbour Fish and Grill Restaurant.
Babs Hannan picked up a best in category title for her gluten-free Victoria sponge and was declared the overall cake-off champion.
Aaron was so impressed by Babs’ winning entry that he took the spare cake away for his staff to sample.
Lion Andy Hannan said: “A big thank you to the Kilbernie Hotel for hosting the event and the following businesses for sponsoring the various categories – Coffee Bean Cafe, S&A Window Cleaners, Chester Road Butcher, Paddlefish Toys and Self Catering Newquay, also Rebel Rebel Hair, Pet Centre Newquay, Chester Road Laundry, Chester Road Hardware, Kettle Hen Jewellers, Seniors Kitchens, the Mermaid Porth, Flowers Newquay and St Columb Financial Services.
“Newquay Lions hope to build on the success of this initial event making it a regular addition to the Newquay community event calendar.”
