EMERGENCY services swung into action following reports of a possible missing person at Towan Beach.
Newquay RNLI Lifeboat volunteers were paged and the charity’s Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat was launched and began a shoreline search.
The crew of the lifeboat launched several white illuminating flares whilst using searchlights and a thermal imaging telescope to light the area and increase visibility.
The charity's D Class lifeboat was also launched at 12.20am at the request of Atlantic crew, and joined the search, which enabled the search area to be expanded in to smaller coves and the harbour area.
The assets were stood down and the shout was deemed to be a false alarm at 1.45am following an extensive search by Newquay lifeboat volunteers and Newquay coastguard search and rescue team.
The incident happened on Wednesday (Sept 11).
