A by-election to find the successor to Jayne Kirkham MP on Cornwall Council alongside two Falmouth Town Council seats has been won by three Labour candidates.
The by-election held on Thursday saw Daniel Konik and Tom Pearce elected as Falmouth town councillors for the Penwerris ward, while Mayor of Falmouth Alan Rowe was elected as Cornwall councillor for Falmouth Penwerris division.
The election of the two Labour town councillors means that the party remains in the majority on the town council.
Cllr Rowe was elected with 339 votes while Lib Dem candidate John Spargo received 228 and Jacqueline Walkden, for the Green Party, got 189. There was no Conservative candidate.
Jayne Kirkham resigned from both her positions after being elected as the Labour MP for Truro and Falmouth in July, while Gerald Chin-Quee resigned due to ill health.
Ms Kirkham said: “Well done Alan, Danny and Tom. You will all be excellent councillors.”
