The first King’s Scout Award to be presented in Cornwall since the coronation of King Charles III has been bestowed upon Sophie Gray from Trewoon.
The ceremony took place at Drummers Lodge scout camp in Scredda on Saturday, February 3.
The award is the highest a youth member of the Scout movement can be given, and Sophie, 24, has worked hard over the last 15 years to achieve it.
Not only has she completed her Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) gold award, which incorporates service, skill and an expedition, but she has also participated in additional Scout activities including a minimum of 20 nights’ camping and a five-day residential course, working on a community project/event with other young people.
Sophie was presented her award by Peter Keast, president of 1st Newquay Scout Group and the only remaining King’s Scout in Mid-Cornwall from the reign of George VI.
Her certificate was presented by St Austell mayor Cllr Crystal Pearce.
