A KIND-hearted youngster visited Newquay Lifeboat Station recently to donate her birthday money to the lifesaving charity.

Lily Bell, aged six, decided she wanted to make the donation to Newquay RNLI after learning about the lifesaving organisation at Trenance Learning Academy.

She held a birthday party and organised a ‘sausage sizzler’, where guests were asked to donate £1 for their food which was then added to Lily’s birthday money and taking the donation more than £170.

Volunteers from Newquay RNLI were amazed to receive the donation from the youngster and more than happy to show Lily and her family around the lifeboat station.

Lifeboat helm Tim Poole gave Lily a run down of what the lifeboat crew do and asked if she wanted to join the crew when she was older.

Tim said: ‘It takes a special kind of child, especially one so young to appreciate what we do and to want to donate all of their birthday money to charity.”

Lily’s mother, Rachel, added: “It is also worth mentioning that Trenance Learning Academy is a really special school, since starting school there in 2022, Lily has taken part in community classrooms where every week the children are taken to different places around Newquay and taught about the history, the coastline and the ocean in Newquay.

“It’s such a unique aspect of her schooling, we feel really privileged that she gets to take part in something that connects her to her community and her ocean surroundings.”
