Imerys Bowling Club is ready for its opening day of the new season on Saturday (April 13) and has issued an invitation for those interested in the sport to go along.

“At 1.30pm, anyone can come and have a go and chat during what promises to be an enjoyable afternoon with us at Roche Road in Bugle,” said Christopher Collings, from the club.

“Our membership stands at 20 male and female members with our youngest member being 12 years old. We have some members in their 80s, so it doesn’t matter about age.

“We have partially-sighted bowlers who come to play, and schoolchildren come every week for a bowling lesson.

“The club was formerly known as Bugle Bowling Club. It was amalgamated with the ECLP club and was renamed Imerys Bowling Club 20 years ago. It’s our anniversary this year.

“We have ladies’ and men’s teams in the league. And we have friendly games with other clubs and a lot of club competitions.

“Bowling is a great sport where you make a lot of nice friends. I have been bowling for over 45 years and still enjoy playing every game, win or lose. All you need is flat trainers or shoes to begin with.”
