MORE than 200 students from 15 Cornish secondary schools will gather for a day of celebrating and elevating their voices to tackle the climate and biodiversity crises.

The Power of 10 festival will take place at Falmouth University’s Penryn Campus on Tuesday, April 22, which is also Earth Day. The festival is run by Another Way – a charity working to empower people to live with kindness towards our planet.

Founder Amy Bray said: “The festival aims to make climate action fun, positive and hopeful, and help young people across Cornwall find their climate superpower, and find community to build connections and support.”

The programme includes workshops, the Power of 10 film, designing a collaborative campaign to implement over the next year, a podcast tent, a photo booth and a pledge tree.

There will be a Q&A with Truro and Falmouth MP Jayne Kirkham and Cornwall Councillor Dominic Fairman, who represents St Teath and Tintagel.

Workshops and speakers on the day will be:

  • Climate scientist professor Martin Siegert, the University of Exeter’s deputy vice chancellor
  • Art for our Future: Sam Bradbury
  • Wavemakers: Find your Blue Career – Gemma Connell/Ocean Generation
  • Find Your Voice: VR public speaking – Elli Clark/Another Way
  • Climate campaigning: Becky Ndega/RJ Working
  • Motion4theOcean: campaigning your council workshop – Emily Cunningham MBE
  • Eco-anxiety circle: Jake Causley

The schools taking part are: St Ives School, Hayle Academy, Mullion School, Redruth School, Falmouth School, Penair School, Richard Lander School, The Roseland Academy, Newquay Tretherras, Treviglas Academy, Penrice Academy, Budehaven Community School, Truro School, Truro High School and Camborne School, plus Cornwall Youth Council.

Young people attending will have the opportunity to join the Power of 10 digital community during and after the day, to access ongoing support and resources.

Another Way aims to build a community of 10,000 resilient and activated young climate leaders taking grassroots action across the UK.

The day is supported by the Duchy of Cornwall, Cornwall Council and the University of Exeter.
