Polurrian on the Lizard hotel has announce its continued commitment to the local community through its partnership with Helston Community College.

The hotel has donated funds to support the college’s forthcoming Peru expedition, and has engaged with students through career talks and educational visits as part of its school partnership programme.

A significant donation from the hotel will contribute towards the coach travel to the airport which will enable 26 students, aged between 15 and 18, to head to Peru for four weeks on a Camp International expedition on Friday, July 19.

The school children will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich culture of Peru as they play an important role in projects that provide sustainable long-term support to the communities in some of the most rural areas.

The group will then take on the challenge to trek to the ancient Inca ruins of Machu Picchu.

Mel Mugford, Assistant Headteacher of Helston Community College, says: “The financial contribution from Polurrian on the Lizard towards our Peru expedition has made a significant impact, helping to allow our students to gain unique experiences, and we wish to thank them.

“The trip aims to foster a spirit of adventure and learning beyond the classroom, providing students with an invaluable opportunity to explore different cultures, enhance their global awareness and develop life skills.”

Polurrian on the Lizard also hosted a series of career talks at the college and on-site hotel visits during the school summer term. Hotel representatives in various roles, including hotel operations, catering, beauty, public relations, and construction, have shared their professional journeys to offer students insights into which curriculum subjects can help lead to a particular career path.

Mel adds: “In addition to a contribution towards our Peru trip, the career talks and visits have provided our students with invaluable insights, helping our students to work towards their future career goals. We wish to thank Polurrian on the Lizard for its support.”

Andrew Long, owner of Polurrian on the Lizard, added: “Our contribution to the Peru expedition and our involvement in career education reflects our commitment to our local community and supporting educational initiatives that nurture young talent.”
