THE historic Grade II listed cottages in Newquay are set to light up winter following a £15,000 grant.
Trenance Cottages will host three new experiences of ‘Trees and Tales,’ which will see the iconic building illuminated for Halloween, Christmas and St Piran’s Week.
The light displays will be accompanied by various events and performances.
The initiative follows the trustees of Trenance Heritage Cottages and the café owners at The Garden Café being successful in its application for an infrastructure grant from Experience Newquay.
The Cottages worked with the café to put forward a plan for lighting up the trees surrounding The Heritage Cottages to the Experience Newquay panel.
The new uplit trees and projections onto the cottages will be changed depending on the season and will provide a walk-through experience for locals and visitors to the town.
The Trees and Tales scheme follows Trenance Cottages installing additional lights onto its large Christmas tree last year, which received a “huge positive response from the public.”
Jill Willmott, the chair of the board of trustees, said: “We were so delighted to have the chance to bring more to the Newquay community by utilising our fabulous park location.
“This will be something Newquay has never seen before and enhance heritage location with state-of -the art lighting ability.
“The Cottages celebrate its 10 year anniversary next year since our renovation and reopening and this a fantastic way to bring a new wave people down to see us.
“The light displays and events for each time of year will provide something special through winter and whether you are driving by or walking through we hope to bring something people can share and participate in.
“The funding will benefit our charity, the town and the whole of Trenance Valley and we would like to thank everyone involved in making this happen.”
The first experience goes live for Halloween on Sunday, October 27. The big Christmas switch on of the Christmas Tree and full light displays with performances will be on Saturday, November 23. The Christmas lights will be on every night through until Christmas with full details on all activities to be announced after the summer.
Local Newquay electricians and lightning designers have been used to design and install the infrastructure over the summer period ready for autumn.
Experience Newquay who awarded the grant is a project promoting sustainable year-round tourism whilst connecting local Cornish communities and visitors with Newquay’s unique identity via cultural activities and programming. The project supports and promote the local creative, leisure and heritage sectors.
Other Experience Newquay projects include ALMA Artspace CIC organising a winter arts festival and installing three ceramic monoliths.
