Before he died, jewellery maker, Len Cooper created a last pair of earrings as a special life-long gift for his daughter, Sue.
A matching pair of solitaire diamonds were hand-picked by Len and set into gold studs for pierced ears. They were meant to be a lasting gift, a perpetual memory of a father's love and Sue wore them constantly - keeping her dad close to her every day.
But on Wednesday, September 4, when Sue came to Penzance on her way to the Isles of Scilly, what was supposed to be a dream holiday began with a disaster. The precious earrings, along with another pair in silver and enamel, were left behind in her Penzance Hotel and nothing has been heard of them since.
"I'm heartbroken," said Sue. "The earrings were more than just jewellery They are the only thing my dad created especially for me. My heart broke when dad died, and now it feels like I'm losing him all over again."
In her search for the earrings Sue has contacted local pawnshops and made Facebook appeals but no trace of the earrings has been found. Now Sue is appealing directly to the people of Penzance to help her find them and is offering a reward to anyone who can help her retrieve the earrings.
"I'm just devastated to have lost my beloved dad's earrings," said Sue. "They were a daily personal link between my dad and me and I'm appealing to anyone who might have found them - please, please help me to get them back."
The earrings were last seen in Room 6 at the Premier Inn, Penzance, on Wednesday, September 4. They were inside a small tortoiseshell-brown ring box along with another much-loved pair of silver earrings, decorated with an enamel spiral motif in blue and turquoise - the colours of the sea.
Premier Inn told Sue they had searched for the ring-box but been unable to find it.
