Around 100 people attended a harvest festival at the historic Gwennap Pit, near Redruth, on Sunday, August 11.

Worship was led by the Rev Jane Willcock, while John Willcock and Tony Langford delivered Bible readings.

St John’s Singers from Chacewater contributed musical items and led the singing with organist John Shepherd, pianist Maggie Lister and Tony Reynolds on drums.

Part of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site, Gwennap Pit is one of the best known Methodist sites in Britain. Methodist founder John Wesley preached there on 18 occasions.

The pit is open throughout the year; the Visitor Centre, manned by volunteers, is open until the end of September.
