A NUMBER of groups and organisations in the St Austell area have been awarded grants by the town council.
St Blazey Amateur Operatic Society, which has been conducting auditions for its 2025 pantomime, Dick Whittington, has been given £500 following an application for £1,000.
Councillors praised the society’s “excellent, professionally-produced productions” but felt that the full sum requested could not be accommodated.
The ABC Residents Association has been given £250 towards a Christmas outing to Exeter, while Cornwall One Parent Support CIO (St Austell group) was awarded £240 towards a family after-school group.
Cornwall Performing Arts CIC has been granted £250 towards the St Austell Zombie Walk and a Halloween workshop, with the same amount being given to the Imerys Singers towards room hire, heating and musical director fees.
Stepping Stones Childcare has been awarded £250 towards an iPad and St Austell BID (Business Improvement District) was given £240 towards four hi-viz jackets for security staff.
The organisers of the 2025 St Piran’s Day event in St Austell were given £250 after councillors were told of the success of this year’s event and the plans in place for next year’s celebrations. Councillors also suggested the Duchy of Cornwall could be approached for funding.
