Firefighters battled a gorse fire across 40 square metres yesterday (March 7) - hours before heavy rainfall started to affect Cornwall.

Crews from Mullion Community Fire Station tackled the blazes in the Chypons area after the alert was sounded after 7pm.

It involved 40 square metres of high gorse that was well alight.

Crews used beaters to put out the fire.

24 hours earlier, the Mullion team and firefighters from St Keverne dealt with a gorse fire on a 500-metre front at Goonhilly Downs.

The blazes broke out after a dry February across Cornwall.
