MORE than £6,000 has been raised through a charity golf day organised by the Rotary Club of St Austell Bay.

The event at St Austell Golf Club featured 27 teams of four players and was in aid of Cornwall Air Ambulance, Mount Edgcumbe Hospice and other charities.

A Rotary club spokesperson said: “The day started with torrential rain but those who started their games later were able to enjoy a dry and mostly sunny day. The total raised this year was over £6,000.

“The winning team was entered by Damerell’s Motorcycles and comprised Luke Damerell, Adam Scott, Matt Boynton and Will Houseman.

“Money raised came not only from the team entries – the players generously supported a raffle and other competitions, including for a voucher for a four ball, at any one of 12 top golf courses in the South West, donated by St Austell Brewery.

“Organiser Simon Ferguson-Smith introduced Rotary club president Paul Hancock who presented the prizes. Paul thanked Simon and all the Rotarians who supported the smooth running of the day. He said the club was grateful to St Austell Golf Club for allowing the use of the course and he also thanked all the sponsors and businesses that had donated towards the day.”
