Armed Forces veterans who have fallen into crisis or even homelessness will benefit from a fundraising event being held at Pentillie Castle in the Tamar Valley.
The charity Alabaré is asking people to get sponsored and spend the night sleeping outside at the castle on February 3 to raise funds towards schemes which help homeless veterans.
Big Sleepers at Pentillie Castle will be joined by Veterans Minister and MP for Plymouth Moor View Johnny Mercer who has pledged to sleep out for the night.
The event will be the first Alabaré Big Sleep at Pentiliie Castle which looks over the River Tamar near Saltash.
Those braving the night under the stars will hear more about the support that Alabaré provides for veterans.
Alabaré has had a home for veterans in Plymouth since 2009, and over the last 13 years have supported hundreds of ex-armed forces personnel who have struggled in their civilian lives. The charity is also supporting nine previously homeless veterans to build their own homes as part of a project in Plymouth.
Rebecca Mullen, from the charity, said: “Our Big Sleep at Pentillie Castle promises to be a powerful, reflective, and yet humbling experience as you bed down for the night, as others who are homeless do every night.
“We are acutely aware of the mental health and financial pressures on many veterans right now, and it is imperative that we can continue to provide this vital support.
“We rely on the generosity of our fantastic supporters to help us raise the funds we need.”
