Plans have been launched to build a new indoor skatepark in Cornwall to grow the sport.
TR7, which is based in Newquay, has started a Crowdfunder in a bid to raise £30,000 to relocate to a new larger facility in Roche.
The new park has been designed by Skatepark Architect Trevor Johnson and will be twice the size of the previous venue, at 370 sq ft.
New features will include a small mini ramp, an open space to learn the basics, rails, ledges, and hips.
There will also be a cafe area, and a versatile space that can be used for events, socialising, and collaborating with other community interest companies in Cornwall.
The TR7 project aims to offer workshops, events, and mentorship opportunities.
A Youth Mentorship Programme will pair experienced skateboarders with younger participants to help them improve their skills and build confidence.
The team plan to launch an after-school programme that will provide a safe and supportive environment for local students to learn new skills and make new friends.
A Women and LGBTQ+ Skateboarding Programme to provide a space where individuals who identify as female or LGBTQ+ can feel safe and welcome to skate and connect with others.
An adaptive Programme will provide specialised equipment such as its rope system and instruction to help people with disabilities or recovering from an injury get on board. Indoor surf training will additionally be offered at the new facility.
The Crowdfunder will be used, alongside funds raised through grant applications, to create a new bespoke skatepark facility, which will cost £90,000.
The funds will also be used to purchase equipment, install health and safety measures, organise outreach programs, and promote the new park.
So far more than £4,500 has been pledged from the Crowdfunder toward the target.
Pledgers to the Crowdfunder will get the chance to win exclusive rewards from local business in Cornwall as well as bonuses from TR7 Skatepark, including time in the skatepark, discount codes, and lessons and there will be raffles from some popular Cornish sponsors.
A spokesman for TR7 said: “Our previous location served us well, but we were limited in what we could achieve.
“By building a new, larger facility, we'll be able to offer more programs and reach more people in the community.
“We are well aware that there is a great need for this as we only have 1 indoor skatepark in the entire county at the moment.
"We found a new premises that has the potential to be more accessible for everyone and has enough space to offer more to our community and welcome more people than we did before.
“With a larger facility, we can increase our impact and help even more people.
"The new skatepark will be accessible for all ages and abilities and we're already working alongside different community interest companies (CICs) in Cornwall to host workshops and events that cater to other communities around us.”
The Crowdfunder, which was launched on Saturday, will be live until July 22.
