A NEWQUAY fundraiser is appealing to people to use their brains to help a brain charity.

Phil Bunt is staging a quiz evening towards the money he raises running the London Marathon in aid of Brain Tumour Research.

The Newquay Road Runner, who is also a member of Towan Blysta Lions, has been inspired to help the cause after fellow-Lion, and well-known local councillor, Kevin Towill, had a tumour removed a year ago.

Mr Towill, aged 45, is now back working as a councillor after many months of rehabilitation in the Plymouth area.

Phil is already two-thirds of the way towards his target of £3,500.

The quiz evening will be held at The Sandy Lodge Hotel in Hilgrove Road on Saturday, March 22 from 7.30pm.

The quizmaster will be the ever-popular DJ Chris ‘Beaker’ Gerry.

Phil said: “I’ve been inspired by Kevin’s determination and positivity throughout all he has been through and am delighted that he is now back with us and playing an active part in representing the community in his role as a councillor and Lion.

“Amazingly, brain tumours kill more children and adults under 40 than any other cancer but it’s reported that, since 2002, only one per cent of the national spend on cancer research has been devoted to finding solutions to this devastating issue.

“So come on use your brains to help brains.

“If you can’t make it and would still like to help raise money for this important cause, have a look at my Just Giving page.”

Quiz teams of up to four people are asked to book in beforehand with Phil by emailing [email protected] or ring 07971 031575.

The entry cost per team is £10 and there will be a variety of prizes as well as the chance to take part in a fund raising raffle on the night.
