A SURF competition with a difference was held in Newquay with the emphasis on having fun.

The first ever Sand Bandit Showdown was staged at Great Western Beach, which included three surfer team relay, a parent and child tandem ride, child competition and an expression session categories.

Bert Ramsey said: “This was a surf competition that maybe isn’t in the most traditional format as far as surf competitions go but what a day it was.

“The Sand Bandit showdown was put on by the local up and coming surf brand Sand Bandit Surf with a wonderful mixture of hilarity and wholesome events.

“It was an unbelievably wholesome day for everyone involved and a very special sense of community with a fantastic response from the local crowd

“Massive thanks to everyone who competed and helped out.”

The next Sand Bandit showdown will be held at Great Western Beach on July 29.
